Whether you’re interested in lodging, food and beverage, event planning, casino management or any of the many other areas of the hospitality industry, Davis & Elkins College will prepare you for a successful career in this exciting industry. D&E provides you with two degree options – a Bachelor of Arts and an Associate in Arts. Both programs provide you with management principles, an understanding of the business and practical experience, but the bachelor’s degree program is more in depth.

Energetic and engaging faculty will teach you the time management skills and work ethic needed for this demanding, but rewarding, field. With encouragement and one-on-one interaction with your professors, you’ll be inspired to think outside of the box to deliver an unforgettable experience.

Travel and tourism is one of the fastest growing industries around the globe, providing millions of job opportunities in amazing locations. Through internships, independent study and even on campus employment, you’ll be ready to take on the world.

Whether you choose to earn an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, you will be required to complete an internship. In addition to providing you with the opportunity to apply the knowledge you gained in the classroom, you’ll get hands-on experience that will help prepare you for success in the industry by making a meaningful contribution to your internship organization. You may complete your internship at the organization of your choosing during any semester or the summer. Students have completed internships at The Greenbrier, Hershey Park, Disney World and many other destinations.

Want to study an area in more depth? Throughout your coursework, you’ll have the opportunity to select a topic that’s not part of the regular curriculum for independent study. Ready to get to work now? Student work-study positions are available on campus to gain experience in event planning, catering services, lodging and restaurant operations through D&E’s Hospitality Services and unique Graceland Inn and Restaurant. Even if you don’t have a campus job, there are opportunities to gain experience through student organizations such as the Hospitality Club and Campus Activities Board.

At D&E, you’ll put what you learn in class to work in our unique hands-on facilities. The variety of opportunities available on campus provide you with a well-rounded experience that will help you launch your career in the hospitality industry.

Davis & Elkins College has a historic inn and restaurant and conference facility on campus. Completed in 1893, Graceland was the summer of Henry Gassaway Davis, a United States Senator. The beautifully restored Victorian mansion is currently a premier lodging, dining, retreat and meeting facility. Robert C. Byrd Center for Hospitality & Tourism, adjacent to Graceland, provides guestrooms and three conferencing areas. You’ll gain experience in everything from reception and foodservice to management and event planning.

D&E will also provide you with other various on and off campus opportunities through its catering, conference, wedding and event planning services, such as an unforgettable wedding in Halliehurst mansion or an energetic concert in Harper-McNeeley Auditorium. Additionally, you are able to complete internship and practica work at local, regional, national and international facilities.

Opening up experiences for Davis & Elkins College students, the Hospitality Club provides opportunities for you to participate in various activities on campus, in the community and along the east coast.

Through partnerships, educational trips and campus events, the student-driven group allows you to gain real-life experiences in professional experiential-learning environments. Club members have completed local tourism immersion projects at the Elkins Depot Welcome Center, explored internship options at ACE Adventure Resort and learned about the behind the scenes magic at Walt Disney World.

On-campus fundraising activities, such as a craft fair and spaghetti dinner, also provide you with first-hand experience in the hospitality industry as you make plans to embark on a new learning adventure.
