Davis & Elkins College alumna and current Nurse Practitioner at Davis Medical Center Silvia B. Triplett, MSN, FNP-C, will serve as speaker for D&E’s 46th Professional Nurses’ Pinning Ceremony. The event will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in the Senate Commons.

The traditional ceremony will include the pinning of nursing graduates, rose presentations and a candlelit Florence Nightingale pledge. Students earning an Associate of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) degrees will be recognized.

Dr. Melissa McCoy, director of the associate degree nursing program, says, “The pinning ceremony is a time-honored nursing school tradition. The pin that is received represents the school and commemorates the completion of the student’s nursing education. The nursing pin is presented to the new graduate nurse by a faculty member as a symbolic welcome to the profession. On Friday, during National Nurses Week, we recognize and pin the future generation of nurses.”

Triplett returns to the College as speaker of the evening with 30 years of industry and industry-adjacent experience beginning in Salamanca, Spain, and continuing throughout the Southern and Eastern United States. Triplett’s graduation from D&E in 2008 with an Associate of Science in Nursing would be followed by her graduation of the College’s Bachelor of Science program in the same field in 2015. The pursuit of a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner would later be completed by Triplett in addition to the completion of more than 500 hours of Clinical Rotations with Valley Health Care and Roberts Family Practice.

Triplett’s professional relationship with Davis Medical Center began following her graduation from the Associate of Science Nursing program in 2008, where she would become a Floor Nurse. This position was held until 2017, when Triplett transitioned to the role of Lead Nurse, a position she held for three years. During this time, Triplett would complete additional Clinical Rotation hours with Davis Medical Center in Women’s Health Care and Outpatient Services, respectively. Triplett’s current position within the organization is Urology Nurse Practitioner.

Triplett is certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of the Society of Urological Nurses and Associates. Triplett’s continued career objectives are to earn certifications in urology and serve the local community.
