Davis & Elkins College Class of 1974 alumna Kathy (Dunbar) Ramsdell has paid in full the $5 million pledge made to the Creating Home: It Takes a Village Capital Campaign. The payment, totaling $1.6 million on behalf of the Dunbar Estate and received in full by the College this week, will be allocated toward the campus’ new Glory Residence Hall to further bolster the College’s Freshmen Village.
Ramsdell, 1974 magna cum laude graduate of D&E and recipient of a Bachelor of Science in Education through the College, pledged the $5 million gift to her alma mater in 2023, which included naming privileges. Following the consultation of her daughters and the foundational experiences of her faith-based history with the College, Ramsdell settled on the name “Glory” to further integrate with D&E’s relationship with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
“With our heartfelt gratitude for Kathy’s love and devotion to her alma mater, the completion of this $5 million pledge moves us ever closer to the successful conclusion of our $25 million Creating Home Capital Campaign to build the Freshmen Village at Davis & Elkins College,” says D&E President Chris A. Wood. “Supporters of this College, such as Kathy, have been so generous in giving back to an institution that provided a transformative educational experience for them. Our future is bright because of Kathy Dunbar Ramsdell and others who understand they have been blessed to be a blessing.”
The construction of the new residence hall continues as expected thanks to the tireless efforts of the working crew and the generous contributions of D&E’s gracious donors. The College continues to accept contributions from generous donors toward the $25 million goal of the Creating Home: It Takes a Village Capital Campaign to facilitate the exemplary educational and cultural experiences available to students. A special dedication of Glory Residence Hall will be held in honor of contributors including Ramsdell during Homecoming Weekend on October 12 at 10:30 a.m., with Ramsdell expected to be in attendance.
