As vice president for advancement, Scott oversees development, alumni relations, church relations, advancement services and the Augusta Heritage Center.

Experience

Upon his graduation from D&E, Scott was recruited as Summer Resident Director for International Hall (now Moyer Hall) on campus, then quickly was appointed Coordinator of Campus Activities. During this time, he managed the daily operations of the residence hall, trained and supervised resident assistants, administered hall programming, and planned and implemented educational programming. In 2000, he was named Assistant Dean of Student Life. Among his responsibilities were the management of activities and entertainment on campus, including the popular spring music festival, Déjà vu. In 2008, Scott was named Dean of Students, overseeing many of the offices he currently manages until his appointment as Vice President for Student Affairs in October 2011. During this time, he also served the College as head coach of the golf team with responsibilities for recruiting student-athletes, managing the team budget, coordinating training and travel schedules, and working closely with the athletic director on NCAA compliance and operation of the team.

Scott has helped lead several initiatives aimed at enhancing the student experience on campus, including smoke-free housing, the residence hall renovations, expansion of the College security team, and the introduction of a community service organization. With a passion for entertainment, he has built the College’s reputation as a key venue for touring acts, booking American Idol winners David Cook and Lee DeWyze, as well as country music stars Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum, Charlie Daniels and Thompson Square; headline rock bands O.A.R., Flogging Molly and Reel Big Fish; and rap legends Vanilla Ice and Sugar Hill Gang.

Activities

Scott is a member of the National Association of Campus Activities and has attended numerous NACA regional conferences and national conventions. He previously served the West Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators as activities chairperson on the Executive Board and received the WVASPA New Professional Award in 1998.

In the Elkins community, Scott has been involved with the United Way telethon, Chamber of Commerce and Mountain State Forest Festival. During the 2016 Forest Festival celebration, Scott served as director general. He previously served as deputy director throughout 2015, coordinating publicity, security, vehicles, sound/light production and the golf tournament, and as an assistant director, managing the Classic Rock and Country Music Concerts from 2000-2010. He also has worked with the Forest Festival as a stage manager and board member. He is an honorary member of three Davis & Elkins College Business Honor Fraternities – Beta Alpha Beta, Phi Beta Lambda and Sigma Beta Delta – and received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award from the College in 2004.

Additional Info

As a student, Scott was president of the Campus Activities Board, a member of the golf and cross country teams, and a resident assistant.
