Mattison joined Davis & Elkins in January of 2025, and in his role he provides oversight for Academic Affairs—academic programs and degrees, faculty recruitment and evaluation, faculty development, curriculum standards and accreditation—and the library, the Naylor Center, the Registrar’s office, TRIO programs, and career services.

Previously, he spent 15 years at Wittenberg University as a Professor of English, also serving 5 years as Associate Provost for Undergraduate Curriculum Development and Academic Student Success. In that time, he helped develop Wittenberg’s general education program, the Connections Curriculum, as well as their noted FIRE Week, a week-long experiential learning opportunity. He holds a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, a Master of Arts in English Literature from Iowa State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the College of Wooster.
