The Davis & Elkins College Highland Dancers and the WV Highland Dancers will present their Spring Highland Fling at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26 in Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium. The event returns after a two-year hiatus.
West Virginia Highland Dancers Instructor and Advisor to the D&E Highland Dancers Katy Dillon says the performance will include traditional Scottish Highland dances, as well as modern choreographies. More than 45 Highland dance students from throughout the region will share their talents.
“All of the dancers have practiced hard through the pandemic and they are so excited to be able to perform for the community again,” Dillon said. “One silver lining of COVID was that we learned how to do interactive dance classes online. This allowed us to expand our group to include people from other areas. Several of them will be traveling in to perform in the show.”
The event is free and open to the public and donations will be accepted. The Davis & Elkins College International Student Organization will sell concessions before the show and at intermission.
The Davis & Elkins College Highland Dancers competition and performance group is made up of D&E students. Dancers can earn up to a $5,000-per-year scholarship based on audition performance.
