BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Following a historic regular season for the Davis & Elkins men’s basketball team that saw a ten-game improvement over the season prior, head Coach Dan Mondragon has been named Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year and Sam Rolle IV and Breland Walton have been named to All-MEC teams.

In his fourth season with D&E, Mondragon guided his team to an 18-10 overall and 12-10 conference record. The eighteen wins represent the most wins in D&E history since the 1954-55 season. The Senators were a perfect 6-0 in non-conference play. D&E improved from tenth in the Mountain East a year ago to tied for fifth this season.

Rolle, a 5-11 guard from Riviera Beach, Fla. was named to the All-MEC First Team. The junior started all but senior day and led the Senators in scoring with 507 points, averaging 18.1 per game. He also leads the team in assists with 157 and steals with 67. Rolle was MEC Player of the Week earlier this month. He was the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2021 and a Second Team member a year ago.

Walton, a 6-5 forward from Beckley, W.Va. was named Honorable Mention All-MEC. The senior was second on the team in scoring average with 14.5 points per game. He ranks first in number of rebounds per game with 6.5 and is second in field goal percentage at .542. Walton was a Second Team honoree in 2021.
