Davis & Elkins College senior Jordan Hyland finished in the top 25 at The Patriot All-America Thunderbolt Invitational in Surprise, Arizona. Shooting a 1-under 215, he shared a three-way tie for the 22nd position.

The tournament featured 64 of the nation’s top male collegiate players competing December 29-31 at Sterling Grove Golf & Country Club. Named after the Air Force P-47 Thunderbolt, the tournament consisted of players who are ranked in the top 1000 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), are PING Second, Third and Honorable Mention All-Americans from Divisions II, III, NAIA and NJCAA, or are AJGA Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Americans.

A resident of Omagh, Northern Ireland, Hyland qualified for the tournament after earning Ping All-America honorable mention two years in a row.

Hyland shot his tournament low of 69 in the opening round, a 72 in round two and finished with a 74 on the third round.

“It was a fantastic experience competing in Arizona, I can’t thank (coach) David Woodrum and D&E enough for giving me the opportunity,” Hyland said.

Hyland picked up his fourth career victory in September at the West Liberty Invitational Tournament and led the team to a first-place finish in team standings. In the 2020-2021 season, Hyland was selected for DII PING All-American Honorable Mention, All-MEC First Team, Mountain East Conference Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week and the DII PING Atlantic All-Region Team. He also finished atop individual leaderboard at the UC Invitational.

In October, Hyland helped the Senators claim the MEC Championship title. The team closed out the fall season with one second place, one third place and three victories. The team will return for its spring season in March.
