Biology – Neuroscience Concentration

Unlock the Mysteries of the Mind. Empower Your Future.

Where Curiosity Meets Impact

Are you fascinated by the brain and driven to understand how it works? The Neuroscience concentration at Davis & Elkins College blends biology, psychology, and clinical science to equip students with the knowledge and experience to explore the inner workings of the human mind.

Whether you envision yourself in research, healthcare, or mental health services, our program provides a rigorous foundation in neuroscience with a practical, hands-on approach. Through laboratory experiences, coursework aligned with the National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative (NNCI), and a psychiatry-focused curriculum, you’ll be prepared to make an impact in today’s most critical scientific and medical fields.

The Neuroscience concentration is being offered as a hybrid course (online/in-person)

Offered as a hybrid degree through the Lower Cost Models for Independent Colleges Consortium (LCMC), the program combines the flexibility of online learning with the mentorship and community of Davis & Elkins College’s on-campus experience. Students benefit from a curriculum developed with input from industry leaders, ensuring real-world relevance.

Students sign up for these hybrid courses as they would other D&E courses.  The courses are offered online and may have different starting and/or ending dates from the regular D&E academic calendar. D&E faculty members are available for support and guidance throughout the course.  Class sizes are intentionally small, so early registration is important to reserve space in the classes.  Tuition is incorporated into the regular course load.

Why Pursue Neuroscience at D&E?

🧠 A Comprehensive Approach to Brain Science

From cellular processes to cognitive behavior, our interdisciplinary curriculum bridges the gap between biology, psychology, and mental health.

🔬 Hands-On Learning

Engage in interactive lab experiences, explore genetic and developmental biology, and apply neuroscience theory in real-world contexts.

💻 Hybrid Course Flexibility

Hybrid course tailored for modern learners with flexibility and collaborative, project-based learning. The program combines the flexibility of online learning with the mentorship and community of Davis & Elkins College’s on-campus experience.

Course Highlights

Intro to Neuroscience
A survey of the organization and function of the human nervous system, from molecules and cells to cognition and behavior.

Biological Basis of Perception and Movement
Learn how biology shapes the way we perceive the world and control our movements — and how these systems break down in disease.

Cognitive Neuroscience
Examine the biological processes behind memory, learning, language, and behavior. This course dives into the brain-behavior connection and associated disorders.

Clinical Neuropathology
Cover the newest developments in psychiatric neuroscience, including developmental disorders, microbiological influences on brain health, and the most current models of mental illness.
