113th Commencement Weekend

Baccalaureate will take place in two services on Friday, May 6th, 2022  in Harper McNeeley Auditorium in the Myles Center for the Arts.

  • 5 p.m. Baccalaureate: Nursing, Education & Sport Science, and Natural Science. Video Link
  • 8 p.m. Baccalaureate: Social Science, Business, Humanities, Creative Arts.  Video Link

Commencement will take place  in two ceremonies on Saturday, May 7th, 2022  in Harper McNeeley Auditorium in the Myles Center for the Arts.

  • 10 a.m. Commencement: Nursing, Education & Sport Science, and Natural Science. Video Link
  • 1 p.m. Commencement:  Social Science, Business, Humanities, Creative Arts. Video Link

Graceland Inn and Conference Center Housing

Graceland Inn and Conference Center Housing Available
• There are a limited number of rooms available in the Graceland Inn and Conference Center for Friday and Saturday night.
• Room rates range from $87.50 to $175.00 per night.
• Check in: 3 p.m. Check out: 11 a.m.
• Call (304) 637-1981 to reserve a room and make your payment.
• No continental breakfast will be available so please allow time to go off campus for breakfast.

Rehearsal

Rehearsal for both Baccalaureate and Commencement will be on Thursday, May 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Harper-McNeeley Auditorium in the Myles Center for the Arts.   All graduates are required to attend. 

Nurses Pinning Ceremony

The Nurses’ Pinning ceremony is on Friday, May 6 at 2 p.m. in Harper-McNeeley Auditorium in the Myles Center for the Arts. A reception will follow in the Senate Commons.

When do graduates pick up their cap and gown?

Graduates may pick up their cap and gown at the following locations and times.

  • Davis & Elkins College Bookstore
    • April 25 to May 4 between 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    • May 5 between 9 a.m. and noon.
  • Commencement Rehearsal
    • May 5 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Office of Academic Affairs
    • May 6 from 9 a.m. to noon
Honor Cords

Honor cords worn during Commencement designate academic achievements of special merit. The colors specify the nature of the achievements. Academic honor cords will be handed out at rehearsal.

  • White, red, and gold cord: Summa Cum Laude
  • White and red cord: Magna Cum Laude
  • White cord: Cum Laude

Departmental honor cords will be handed out by departments in advance of Commencement.

What time should graduates arrive for Baccalaureate?

Graduates should arrive at the library bridge no later than 45 minutes BEFORE the start time of their Baccalaureate service.  (Rain Location: Glass wall in the Myles Center for the Arts.)

  • If your Baccalaureate service. is at  5 p.m., please arrive not later than 4:15 p.m.
  • If your Baccalaureate service. is at  8 p.m., please arrive not later than 7:15 p.m.

  • Graduates are required to wear their Academic Regalia at Baccalaureate. Please remember to wear the following.
    • Black Graduation Gown
    • Mortar Board with Red and White 2022 Tassel

  • Graduates are required to wear their Academic Regalia at Commencement. Please remember to wear the following.
    • Black Graduation Gown

    • D&E Hood (Received at Baccalaureate)
What time should graduates arrive for Commencement?

1:00 p.m. graduates should arrive at the Library Bridge for an outside lineup no later than 45 minutes BEFORE the start time of their Commencement ceremony.

  • If your Commencement ceremony is at  10 a.m., please arrive not later than 9:15 a.m.
  • If your Commencement ceremony is at  1 p.m., please arrive not later than 12:15 p.m.

 

Ticket Information for 2022 Baccalaureate Services and Commencement Ceremonies

At this time, tickets are not required.

What time may guests enter the auditorium?

Guests may enter the auditorium one hour in advance of the service or ceremony they are attending.

Parking

Parking will be available in the McDonnell Center lot accessible off Harpertown Road. Parking will not be available on the front of campus.

The Myles Center for the Arts is now accessible on all levels by elevator.

COVID Safety Precautions

To insure the safety and health of everyone, unvaccinated members of the campus community and unvaccinated guests are required to wear a mask. Masks are available from any D&E staff member at the entrance to the auditorium.

Streaming Information

Links for the live stream of each ceremony will be posted on Thursday, May 5.

Commencement Weekend Photographs

As each graduate crossed the stage to receive their diploma, they will be photographed by a professional photographer from Sam Santilli Photography. Each graduate will receive a copy of their photo by mail, as a gift from the National Alumni Council in late May. In addition, all images will be available on the Davis & Elkins College website.

To limit distractions,  please do not approach the stage to photograph or film the Commencement ceremony.

2022 Commencement plans will be announced on April 1.  Please see below from Davis & Elkins College President, Chris A. Wood.

Note from President Wood:

As spring semester rolls along and we look forward to warmer days, I continue to be thankful for the care that our students, faculty, and staff have demonstrated in keeping our campus and the surrounding community safe and healthy during this long pandemic.  It was not no easy feat, but Davis & Elkins College has done a remarkable job!

The prioritization of health and safety for both the campus community and the Elkins Community remains paramount as we make decisions regarding spring commencement weekend.  Graduation is a milestone moment in the life of our graduates, their families, and the College and we want to celebrate it joyfully and safely.

  • Baccalaureate will take place on Friday, May 6, 2022, in Harper McNeeley Auditorium in the Myles Center for the Arts.   The time of the service(s) are not yet set.
  • Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in Harper McNeeley Auditorium in the Myles Center for the Arts. The time of the ceremony(ies) are not yet set.

As we finalize plans for the 113th Commencement at Davis & Elkins College, we continue to prioritize the health and safety of both the campus community and the Elkins Community. Please see below for the 2022 Commencement Weekend schedule.  Any updates will be posted on April 21.
