Interdisciplinary Studies
The Interdisciplinary Studies program seeks to broaden the array of programs available to students. The program supports students in the design, proposal, and completion of coherent, individualized, interdisciplinary programs of study that are otherwise not offered by the College.
Students who pursue an interdisciplinary program of study work with the Interdisciplinary Studies Coordinator to establish and justify both the goals and curriculum of their proposed program of study. Only students seeking a bachelor’s degree are eligible to pursue a major in interdisciplinary studies.

How it works

Personalized curriculum
Students work with advisers to design a course of study that combines subjects from different departments, like blending business and fine arts or biology and ethics.

Focused learning
While not as broad as a liberal arts degree, it is more focused than a single-discipline major, allowing students to target their education toward a particular interest or career.

Flexibility
The program structure varies by institution. Some require a proposal for a custom major, while others offer pre-approved concentrations or allow students to combine existing minors.

Skill development
These programs often emphasize critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and the ability to integrate different perspectives and methodologies.
