Residential Life
Community living.
Life-to-life encounters.
Davis & Elkins College is a residential institution that believes in the educational value of the residence life experience. Ask graduates about their college years, and most will say that the closest relationships were developed and the greatest lessons learned in the context of residential living.
Along with attending classes and participating in activities outside the classroom, living on campus is a key building block of a D&E student’s educational experience. We believe it is vital for students to be immersed in community living so they can have key life-to-life encounters. In community living, students give and receive, are shaped by and contribute to campus life, and are challenged to integrate learning with their choices.
For these reasons, D&E requires all students to live on campus except those students living at home with their parents, married students, students with children, handicapped students with a need for facilities which the College is unable to provide, and independent students (NOT claimed as a dependent by their guardian(s)) over 23 years of age.
