Accounting (B.S., A.S.)

Accounting isn’t just taxes

Accounting includes the areas of auditing, forensics, fraud and the government, to name only a few.

The Davis & Elkins College accounting program provides you with two degree options to prepare for a successful career. The associate’s degree program is completed in two years and trains you to work in bookkeeping. The bachelor’s degree program requires four years of course work that encompasses a larger area of accounting and is needed to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

Small classes enable engaging faculty members to enhance your learning experience by challenging and inspiring you and providing individualized attention. Each course will allow you to take away a valuable lesson in the field and provide you with full understanding of the material on a personal and textbook level.

Opportunities

All students enrolled in the accounting program are required to complete an internship. Through your internship, you’ll obtain hands-on experience and learn the day-to-day practices of someone working in the field. In the past, students have gained full-time employment by the organization that provided their internship.

Students studying accounting also have the opportunity to gain valuable real world experience by participating in the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program each spring.  The VITA program provides free tax preparation service for the underserved.
