D&E Nurses' Pinning

Welcome to the Davis & Elkins College Division of Nursing!

In this division, our nursing programs live out the D&E way every day. Nursing instructors get to know you like family – your name, your course load, interests and career aspirations – and work hard to help you reach your professional goals.

Speaking of goals – getting a job is certain to be top of your list! D&E’s RN-BSN program boasts a 100% Job Placement Rate 3 years running, and a 100% job placement rate for our ASN program as well.

How do we do it? We invest in you.

If you’re involved in student organizations or athletics, we work around your busy schedule.

We connect you with the medical community through the D&E Student Nursing Association (DESNA), and through our partnership with Davis Medical Center, a strong partner that provides you with state-of-the-art facilities and tools for dynamic hands-on learning.

D&E nursing students are leading the way in this exciting and fulfilling field. Learn from our division chair, Dr. Huixin Wu, below.

Davis & Elkins Adds 3-year Accelerated BSN Programs

The accelerated Bachelor of Science in nursing program allows students to complete their degree in three years instead of four. The program is offered either in-person, or hybrid beginning in the fall of 2026.

The addition of the program is made possible by a grant from West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s Nursing Workforce Expansion Program to prepare nurses to meet the future health care needs in the Mountain State.

I highly recommend D&E Nursing as the school of choice to obtain your bachelor’s degree. The campus is beautiful, the nursing program is phenomenal, the teachers are great, and the nursing staff are like family. If I had a choice to obtain my bachelor’s degree – D&E would be my number one choice. The D&E nursing program rocks and helped mold me into the nurse I am today.

A Message from Dr. Huixin Wu, Chair, Division of Nursing

Dear prospective nursing student

Being a nurse over 20 years, I’m thrilled to see more caring and enthusiastic young people who want to help those in need, advocate for our patients, and improve the population health of our community, our country, and the whole world. Here is what awaits you in this exciting profession:

  • As a nurse, you’ll be trusted. According to Gallup’s annual poll, nursing has been the most trusted profession in the U.S. every year for nearly two decades.
  • You’ll be rewarded for your work. Based on 2017 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median national salary for RNs (with a bachelor’s degree) is $70,000.
  • A bachelor’s degree opens the most possibilities. With a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN), you could work at a Magnet hospital or in the military; function as a nurse manager, case manager, research nurse, and more. (See below.)
  • However, it is challenging to become a successful nursing student. That’s why we offer two-year ASN, one-year online RN-BSN, and four-year BSN program options to fit your life, finances, and career development needs.

If you enjoy studying in a private NCAA Division II college with a beautiful rural campus, many recreational opportunities, super friendly faculty and staff, and a small faculty-student ratio, Davis & Elkins College is a good fit for you.

We are here to help you to make your nursing dream come true. Please feel free to contact my colleagues or me if you want to explore the potential of your future nursing career. See contact information below. We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Dr. Huixin Wu, DNP, MBA, RN, CCRN, CCNS
