Davis & Elkins College is committed to helping consumers make well-informed decisions about post-secondary education. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, requires institutions participating in federally funded financial aid programs to make information about the institution available to the public. Privacy of Student Records – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA allows current and future students to have access to their individual educational records, provides basic protections of privacy for their records, and allows them to request that certain “directory information” be kept confidential. Results from the 2016 graduate survey indicated that 68 percent of the graduating seniors were members of a club or organization while a student at D&E.

Student Grievance Policy

Students also have the option to file formal complaints against Davis & Elkins College through the Higher Learning Commission or at the state level through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. Students may also file a complaint through the Campus Conduct Hotline.

Participation in a Varsity Sport

Immunizations/Vaccinations

Immunizations, including Hepatitis B and Meningococcal and T-DAP, are required of all students.

Degree Pursuant Coursework
Only coursework required for a student’s completion of their active degree program is included in determining their course load for federal and state financial aid and their cost of attendance for all financial aid. Taking coursework that is not required for degree completion may result in a recalculation of a student’s aid package and financial aid may be reduced or eliminated. If a student has questions on whether a course is required for their degree program, they should contact their Academic Advisor or the Office of the Registrar.

Federal Student Aid Eligibility for Study Abroad Programs
A study abroad program is eligible if the College awards academic credit for the program and students in the program remain concurrently enrolled at Davis & Elkins College.

Exit Counseling for Student Borrowers
All student loan borrowers must complete online exit counseling at StudentAid.gov when withdrawing, graduating or dropping below a half-time course load in a term.

Special and Unusual Circumstances
Students may request an adjustment to their financial aid eligibility based on special or unusual circumstances.

Special Circumstances refer to changes in a family’s financial situation (ex. job loss, income reduction, etc.).

Unusual Circumstances refer to an adjustment of the student’s dependency status based on a unique situation (ex. parental abandonment, etc.).
