Tim Miller begins his second season at Davis & Elkins as the head baseball coach in 2021-22.
Miller wrapped up his first season at the helm in 2021, notching the highest single-season win total for the program since 2018. Miller picked up the first win of his head coaching career with an exciting 4-3 home triumph against Frostburg State on March 21, 2021. The Senators also knocked off 19th-ranked Charleston (W.Va.) at Harpertown Field to conclude a four-game set in April 2021.
D&E had a strong year in the classroom during Miller’s first year at the helm, placing 14 players on the MEC All-Academic Teams for 2021 with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Announced as the 14th head coach in the history of the Davis & Elkins baseball program in 2020, Miller officially started his tenure on September 1, 2020.
Miller arrives in Elkins following nearly two seasons as the assistant coach at Franklin College, a Division III school located just outside of Indianapolis. After beginning his tenure just before the season, Miller got to work quickly and helped guide the Grizzlies to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC), regional championship and the deepest tournament run in program history during the 2019 campaign.
While the 2020 season was cut short after eight games, Miller coached nine all-conference and three all-region selections during his time with the Grizzlies. Working as the hitting and infield coach at Franklin, he prepared detailed scouting reports for opponents using video analysis and software while planning daily practices and individual player training sessions. Miller takes over the D&E baseball program from Mason Heyne, who stepped down from the position earlier this summer.
In addition to his coaching role at Franklin, he has worked with Indiana Elite Baseball, most recently in the summer of 2019 leading the U17 baseball team and working to develop a 15-player roster of high school athletes.
A thorough recruiter, Miller worked as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Frostburg State from 2016-18 and added 30 players to the program over that span. The 2018 Bobcat baseball pitching staff finished first nationally in NCAA DIII in strikeouts per nine innings (11.0) and 20 players earned academic all-conference honors.
Miller worked with the Fayetteville SwampDogs of the Coastal Plain League in the summer of 2016 as a pitching coach. He also served as the pitching coach at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg from 2014-16, where the Bobcats set 15 team records and 32 individual records over two seasons.
Miller, who is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), spent the 2010-13 seasons at South Park High School in Pennsylvania as the team’s pitching coach. He helped guide the team to a state record 25 victories to begin the 2013 campaign. Miller was part of a state baseball championship as a pitching coach at Cannon-McMillian High School in 2008.
Miller, who received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington & Jefferson in 2011, later earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Frostburg State in 2018.
