Jamie Joss is in his sixth year as the Director of Athletics at Davis & Elkins after being named to the position on July 15, 2015 after three years as the Director of Athletics at Warner Pacific College in urban Portland, Oregon.
Joss who serves on the College’s Executive Cabinet, is responsible for administration of all facets of the athletic program, providing vision, leadership and strategic planning for the Department of Athletics.
Joss was appointed to the NCAA Division II National Nominating Committee in November of 2017 and is in his third year serving on the DII Midwest Women’s Basketball Regional Advisory Committee.
The Ontario, NY native completed the NFL Athlete Development Certification program at the Wharton Aresty Institute Executive Education at the University of Pennsylvania in January 2018. The program is a joint venture between the NCAA, the Wharton Executive Education and the National Football League developed in conjunction with the Wharton Sports Business Initiative.
Passionate about sports marketing and branding, Joss along with the assistance of the athletic staff initiated a complete rebranding of the Davis & Elkins athletics program with the development of the program’s mission statement Developing Excellence through Education, Engagement, Character and Competition which aligns with the College’s mission, to prepare and inspire students for success and for thoughtful engagement in the world. Along with the new mission statement, a new logo was created and unveiled in November of 2016 through a partnership with Mongoose Graphics in Thornton, CO.
Joss initiated a new community engagement program for the athletics department. Each sports program aligns with a non-profit organization in Elkins, along with department-wide initiatives throughout the academic year. Each student-athlete has a goal of completing 16 hours of community engagement, and the Senators logged 3,074 hours in 2016-17 to finish 8th in NCAA Division II, over 4,000 in 2017-18 to finished 12th in DII.
The D&E Athletic Department was recognized as a finalist for the NCAA Division II 2018 Award of Excellence. The Senators completed a day of service as part of the athletic year kickoff event in August. Over 300 Student-athletes, coaches and athletics administrators took to the streets of Elkins, to serve the community by cleaning up the city. D&E was one of nineteen programs and two conferences recognized for campus and community engagement efforts over the past year and was awarded $500 to be used for future community engagement activities.
Since his arrival, Joss has guided the launch of new programs including men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track, women’s acrobatics & tumbling, women’s triathlon and women’s golf, and men’s wrestling in 2019-20 raising the sport total to 24 and expanding the student-athlete population from 225 to over 322 in 2018-19.
Joss has college and university athletic administration at several NCAA Division I, II & III schools’ including Colgate University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, High Point University, Lake Superior State, St. Andrews Presbyterian College and Winthrop University.
His coaching background includes serving as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at St. Andrews, and also assisted the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Conference office as Sports Information Director.
Prior to his arrival at Warner Pacific, Joss leveraged his vast connections in collegiate athletics to help position SIDEARM Sports as the #1 Provider of College Athletics Websites. As Vice President of Sales and Operations, he was responsible for helping grow the company from 40 clients to nearly 600 in just four years.
Joss earned a B.S. degree in Sport Management from Bowling Green State University and a M.S. Degree in Sport Administration from the United States Sports Academy.
