CHARLESTON GAZETTE-MAIL - Saturday night at the Culture Center Theater, in Charleston, bluegrass and traditional music fans will get a chance to see some of the players who could become the biggest names in both musical genres.

The Friends of Old Time Music And Dance (FOOTMAD) will kick off its spring concert series with a show featuring the rising stars of the West Virginia traditional music scene, with student musicians from West Virginia University and the Appalachian Ensemble from Davis & Elkins College.

“It’s our mission to promote and present traditional music,” said Steve Ballman, FOOTMAD’s treasurer, “and we feel like this is a good chance for us to promote some of the rising stars in West Virginia.”

Ballman said the show not only showcases some of the best of the best young performers in the state, but he hopes it will show off the programs each group is part of.
