THE INTER-MOUNTAIN - Davis & Elkins College students, faculty and staff, as well as area residents, will have the opportunity to hear from Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., as he conducts a Community Town Hall Meeting today in Elkins.
The event will be hosted by the college and is set to take place at 12:30 p.m. at the Joni and Buck Smith Arts Forum in the Myles Center for the Arts on campus.
Davis & Elkins College President Chris A. Wood said he believes it is important for the institution to host this event to allow community members to receive information on a variety of issues.
“Davis & Elkins College is pleased to serve as the venue to host Sen. Manchin’s Town Hall to provide information about the important governmental issues that affect our lives and community,” Wood said. “The college is pleased to serve our leadership role within the community promoting civil discourse.”
Manchin was sworn into the United States Senate on Nov. 15, 2010, to fill the seat left vacant by the late Sen. Robert C. Byrd. He began his tenure as West Virginia’s 34th governor in January 2005.
Manchin currently serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, the Senate Committee on Appropriations and the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs — four critical committees that tackle the work of addressing the nation’s energy needs, standing up for veterans and overseeing discretionary spending and intelligence activities.
