WBOY - It may be a rainy day across most of North Central West Virginia but that doesn't stop a new solar panel installation from doing some work here at Davis & Elkins College. The panel on the top of the Myles Center in Elkins are the third such installation to show up on campus, and after working with the power company, they've just been turned on this week to help offset the power needs on the campus. The 30 new panels add to the power already being generated on campus for the past few years.
"The GreenWorks! Club put up a solar panel at the gazebo to power some LEDs, and then in 2014 they put up 12 panels on our science center, so we were kind of playing off the momentum of those two projects and decided we wanted to go a little bigger," said GreenWorks! President Thomas Fletcher.
The GreenWorks! Club was a major reason the new panels were installed in the first place. The organization worked with D&E's student government and science honorary society Chi Beta Phi to see the addition of the latest round of panels become reality. Students said it's a project and an organization that much of the campus was able to get behind.
