WV UNCOVERED - Kaia Kater-Hurst found her niche a long way from home. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, the sophomore theology and philosophy major has spent the last two years at Davis & Elkins College on scholarship through the Augusta Heritage Center.

“I first picked up a banjo when I was twelve, and since then I haven’t been able to put it down,” she said.

Kater-Hurst, is a member of the Appalachian Ensemble, a music and dance group that travels around the area performing old-time music and dance that is native to Appalachia.
