THE HERALD-DISPATCH - The 25-member Davis & Elkins Concert Choir; Rev. Chris A. Wood, president of Davis & Elkins; Tina Vial, coordinator of church relations, will lead worship at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 7, at First Presbyterian Church, 1015 5th Ave., Huntington.
Under the direction of Liz Marshall-MacVean and accompanied by Donna Baroudi-Huffman, the choir will perform both traditional and contemporary selections including, "Oh What Grace" by Jason Bledsoe, "Even So, Come" by Tomblin, Ingram and Cates, and "Same Power" by Camp and Ingram.
"The students in our choir come from different states and have various courses of study. We come together to create one common sound," Marshall-MacVen said in a news release.
A native of Huntington, Wood is D&E's 15th president and an ordained United Methodist minister. His scripture and sermon will be Matthew 14:22-33, "Time to Walk on the Water." Prior to D&E, he served as vice president for advancement at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware. During a 13-year period, he served several United Methodist pastorates in Illinois and Maryland, and later as the executive and program director of Mission West Virginia, Inc.
Wood's father, Rev. Dr. F. Emerson Wood, served as senior pastor for Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church from 1978 to 1996.
Davis & Elkins is a private college of liberal arts and professional studies located in Elkins, West Virginia.
