THE EXPONENT TELEGRAM - As college and university commencement season nears in the region, area schools are preparing for some of the biggest graduating classes they have seen in several years. Others are putting the finishing touches on their commencement ceremonies.
Approximately 200 students will graduate from Davis & Elkins College at 10 a.m. May 20, according to Nanci Bross-Fregonara, director of communications and marketing. The ceremony will take place in the Claude King Davis Memorial Plaza and no tickets are necessary for the event.
“The number of graduates is relatively similar each year,” Bross-Fregonara said. “We are currently making sure that all of our ducks are in a row and putting final touches on the preparation and organization for the commencement.”
Dr. John Ochsendorf, a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will give the commencement speech, Bross-Fregonara said. Ochsendorf is an Elkins native and will be receiving an honorary doctor of science degree.
This will be the first commencement at Davis & Elkins College in which new President Chris A. Wood will participate.
Bross-Fregonara said the faculty and staff at Davis & Elkins College are excited to make the 2017 commencement a ceremony to remember for students and families.
