ELKINS - The Davis & Elkins College Sport Science Department is set to begin its fifth year of Project Life Change, a free program aimed at helping participants create a better, healthier lifestyle. Supported with a grant from the Snowshoe Foundation, the next session begins at 6 p.m. Monday September 18 on the College campus.

The classes will meet from 6-7 p.m. every Monday from September 18 to November 13 in Eshleman Science Center Room 400. The program will cover nutrition, activity and overall wellness education in addition to pre- and post-assessment of overall health and wellness.  Participants who enroll and attend weekly will receive membership passes to the Davis & Elkins College Robbins-Madden Fitness Center and George A. Myles Pool as well as the Elkins/Randolph County YMCA.

“Project Life Change is a free opportunity for people to learn about and invest in a healthier lifestyle for themselves,” said Dr. Mary Ann DeLuca, chair of the Davis & Elkins Sport Science Department. “The Sport Science faculty are committed to giving their time and energy to promote wellness throughout the region.”

Past participants have said the sessions gave them a greater overall awareness of healthy lifestyle changes, including food choices and portion sizes, along with increased motivation for exercising.

“We are encouraged by the results of some of our previous participants. All past participants are welcome and we welcome new members,” DeLuca said. “We would like to thank the Snowshoe Foundation for supporting this initiative within our community and seeing the value of health in the state of West Virginia. In addition, we want to thank Sid Gillespie, executive director of the Elkins/Randolph County YMCA, and the staff of Davis & Elkins College for collaborating with Project Life Change for another year.”

Project Life Change is open to participants of all ages in Randolph County and the surrounding areas.  Classes are led by DeLuca, as well as Sport Science Instructors Dr. Jennifer Riggleman and Amanda Larkin. The second nine-week session will start January 22, 2018.
