ELKINS - Davis & Elkins College will host a public reception for the opening of the art exhibit “One Loop at a Time” by Trustee June Myles at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 11 in the Paull Gallery in Myles Center for the Arts. The display, featuring hooked artwork, will remain open through November 15 and is free and open to the public.

The exhibit opens just as the College prepares to celebrate Homecoming, Senator Nation and Family Weekend, October 12-14. Special hours for visitors to view the works during the celebration are 6-9 p.m. October 11, noon – 4 p.m. October 12 and 13. Other scheduled hours are noon – 3 p.m., October 20; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., October 27; and noon – 3 p.m. November 3 and 10. Docents will be available. Additional hours will be added and can be arranged by appointment.

Myles's hooked artwork engages the viewer with humor and a style that finds its origins in folk art. Alive with color, texture, and movement, the pieces display her sophisticated use of color, love of language and virtuoso needle skills. The rugs, wall hangings and pillows illustrate their tales through a menagerie of whimsical animals and a series of portraits of men as varied as a sun-drenched "Matisseman," a banker and a philosopher.

Originally from Elkins, Myles divides her time between West Virginia and Connecticut. Her hooked art has been exhibited widely across Connecticut and in Maine and West Virginia.
