ELKINS - When the Davis & Elkins College Senators take on Malone University at home on Thursday, January 25, fans will be able to hear scores and calls loud and clear, thanks to a $30,000 gift from Citizens Bank of West Virginia for upgrades to the sound system. The College will recognize Citizens Bank for its generosity in a ceremony between the women’s and men’s basketball games.
The women’s contest begins at 5:30 p.m. and the men tip off at 7:30 p.m., both in The McDonnell Center.
“Davis & Elkins College is grateful to our corporate friends at Citizens Bank of West Virginia for their continuing support of our students and their commitment to being a strong community partner with education,” said Davis & Elkins College President Chris A. Wood. “The McDonnell Center is not only home to D&E athletic events, but also countless events for the community at-large. Nathaniel Bonnell and Citizens Bank represent the type of philanthropic spirit that makes our community such a wonderful place to live and work.”
The sound system upgrade includes state-of-the-art acoustic treatment systems, a new amplification system, digital signal processing, new cabling, microphones and controls. In addition, the above-the-floor speakers were adjusted and tuned.
“When we were approached by the college to assist with a much-needed sound upgrade, we wanted to assure that the growing number of fans using the facility had quality sound at events,” said Citizens Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel Bonnell, an alumnus of D&E. “We’re pleased that we are able to do this for the college and community.”
This is the second time Citizens Bank has partnered with the College for additions to The McDonnell Center. As part of the Centennial Campaign, the bank’s gift enabled the College to purchase a scoreboard for the athletic facility. The most recent gift of $30,000 is one that will give twice. The $25 million McDonnell Challenge from James S. McDonnell III and the McDonnell Family Foundation matches dollar-for-dollar all gifts and commitments for inclusion in D&E’s 10-year, $100 million Secure the Future campaign that concludes on June 30.
The McDonnell Center, a 41,333-square-foot facility for intercollegiate sports, physical education, recreation and fitness programs, is named for the generous support of Trustee James S. McDonnell, the parent of a D&E graduate.
The ceremony will include a check presentation to the College and a gift presentation to the bank. More than 30 Citizens Bank employees plan to attend the games in support of the Senators.
