ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Art Club has plans set for another Color Run scheduled for Saturday, April 28 throughout campus. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Midland Elementary School’s playground project.

“The Color Run has been a big hit every year and we’ve had a lot of people asking if we would do it again,” said Art Club President Cassidy Conner. “We feel really good about helping Midland Elementary build a new playground. It’s something they need and they have been very appreciative.”

Art Club member and Student Assembly Vice President-elect Elijah Cordle, who has been instrumental in organizing the Color Run, says the group’s decision to support Midland Elementary was inspired by D&E’s mission statement – “To prepare and inspire students for success and for thoughtful engagement in the world.”

“As a campus community, it’s important for us to be involved and make connections,” Cordle said. “We have been provided with a wonderful opportunity to help some fantastic people and we are excited to do so. We wanted to give back some of the support we are given by being thoughtfully engaged in the community and hopefully inspiring these young students to be thoughtful and successful in their endeavors as well.”

Participants of all ages are welcome and may choose between a 5k run or 2k walk. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the 5k run in three categories: 12 and younger, 13-17, and 18 and older.

Each registered participant will receive a pair of sunglasses, one personal color powder packet, one inspirational bracelet, two temporary tattoos and a Color Run 2018 T-shirt designed and printed by D&E art students. Fees are $35 per person when registering individually; $30 per person when registering as a group of two to five people; $25 per person when registering as a group of six or more; and $20 per person for D&E students, faculty and staff.

The event will be part of D&E’s annual Déjà vu weekend.
