ELKINS - Davis & Elkins College Vice President for Student Affairs Scott Goddard has been appointed to the West Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators Board of Directors. The professional organization serves public and private colleges and universities by promoting programs and plans to benefit all student personnel workers.
Board members are responsible for assessing professionals’ needs throughout the state and designing and implementing programs to meet those needs. In addition, they are charged with keeping up to date on trends in student services and student affairs, serving on the annual conference committee and addressing problems encountered by members.
Goddard will serve a one-year term concluding in December 2018.
“Student affairs is a field that sees its staff display both head and heart. It is through professional organizations like the West Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators (WVASPA) where we can come together,” Goddard said. “For me personally, it is a homecoming of sorts. I was active in the organization early in my career. When the opportunity presented itself to return as a member of the board, I was truly willing to serve and give back to a profession that has been my passion and my life’s work. I look forward to taking an active role in planning the WVASPA & WVTRIO Fall 2018 Conference at the Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center.”
Goddard previously served WVASPA as the activities chairperson of the executive board. In 1998, the organization recognized Goddard with the New Professional Award.
As vice president for student affairs at D&E, a position he has held since 2011, Goddard oversees all student life services including international student support, residence life, health services and counseling and wellness, along with dining services. Prior to his current role, Goddard served D&E as dean of students from 2008 to 2011, assistant dean of students from 2000 to 2008 and resident director from 1996 to 2000. He was also the head men’s golf coach from 2005 to 2010.
Goddard holds a Master of Arts in educational leadership from West Virginia University and Bachelor of Arts degrees in marketing and management from Davis & Elkins College.
In addition to his professional career, Goddard volunteers in the community with the Mountain State Forest Festival in various capacities including leading the organization as director general in 2016.
