Lift Me Up! Masters of American Gospel Concert

The Lift Me Up! Masters of American Gospel concert brings The Legendary Ingramettes and The Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers to Harper-McNeeley Auditorium on the Davis & Elkins College campus Sunday, February 10 at 2 p.m. The roof-raising sounds of traditional American gospel will be celebrated in commanding, spirit-filled performances by these two sensational grassroots ensembles that demonstrate both the diversity of expression and the extraordinary depth of talent in American gospel music. Backed by their sizzling band, the Legendary Ingramettes reign as one of Virginia’s premier traditional gospel ensembles. The Brotherhood Singers are among the nation’s foremost practitioners of the venerable art of unaccompanied gospel harmony singing. Presented by Davis & Elkins College.

In addition to the concert, a Soul Food Dinner with the Ingramettes is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, February 9 at Graceland. Joining the Legendary Ingramettes for the Soul Food Dinner will be their sister, Christine Ingram-Murphy. A member of the 2018-2019 class of Master Artists in the Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship Program in Charlottesville, Virginia, Ingram-Murphy is a master of soul food cooking, with an emphasis on healthy traditional soul food dishes. The dinner menu will feature turkey, purple cabbage and green cabbage, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas, rice, candied carrots, cornbread, chocolate cake, sweet potato pie and pound cake. The Legendary Ingramettes will be on hand and the Northern Kentucky Brotherhood will stop in as well.
