108th Commencement Weekend
May 19-20, 2017
The following activities, unless otherwise indicated, are open to the entire College community including graduates, their families and guests.
Friday, May 19
8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Davis & Elkins College Bookstore Open; Madden Student Center
1:00 p.m.: Commencement Rehearsal; Harper-McNeeley Auditorium, Myles Center for the Arts; For graduates of the Class of 2017.
4:00 p.m.: Nurses’ Pinning Ceremony; Harper-McNeeley Auditorium, Myles Center for the Arts; Speaker: Natasha Wamsley, '09. For graduating nursing students, parents, relatives and friends.
7:00 p.m.: Baccalaureate Service and Recognition of Graduates; Harper-McNeeley Auditorium, Myles Center for the Arts; Graduating seniors lead this service of praise and worship celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2017. Speaker: Rev. Susan McGhee, Executive Presbyter, Presbytery of Ohio Valley, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Bloomington, Ind. The service includes the presentation of academic hoods. No tickets are necessary for admittance to the ceremony.
IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING BACCALAUREATE SERVICE
Baccalaureate Service Reception; The Joni and Buck Smith Arts Forum, Myles Center for the Arts; A gathering for all graduates and their guests for refreshments and fellowship.
Saturday, May 20
8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Davis & Elkins College Satellite Bookstore Open; Myles Center for the Arts
10:00 a.m.: 108th Commencement Ceremonies; Harper-McNeeley Auditorium, Myles Center for the Arts; Speaker: Dr. John A. Ochsendorf, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass. No tickets are necessary for admittance to the ceremony. Unable to attend? IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING COMMENCEMENT
Commencement Reception; The Joni and Buck Smith Arts Forum, Myles Center for the Arts; A fun gathering of graduates and their families for photographs and time with faculty, trustees and the entire College family.
12:00-2:30 p.m.: Commencement Buffet Luncheon; Graceland; $18.95 per person for adults; $9.50 for children ages 6-12 (plus gratuity). Children ages 5 and under are free. Reservations are requested, 304-637-1600.
