COVID-19 Update, July 10, 2020

Dear Davis & Elkins College community,

We hope your summer is going as well as it can amid the COVID-19 pandemic. D&E’s goal is to make sure we are doing everything we can for your safe and efficient return to campus in August. Please take the time to read this — and all — student updates and discuss them with your parents. Information this week centers around the Student Finance Center, New Student Orientation, and preparing yourself physically for your return to D&E.

“Knock Things Out Before Your Arrival Series” continues in Friday updates

D&E will continue its series of informative pieces in today’s Student Update outlining a timely task that students (and parents) should accomplish as the Fall 2020 semester nears. Be sure to read the Student Update to not only put these items on your To Do List, but to get them checked off!

Knock Things Out Before Your Arrival: Ellucian Self-Service Portal (Student Finance Center)

Davis & Elkins College is proud to offer the Ellucian Self-Service Portal through the Student Finance Center, created to give students, faculty, and staff the information and access they need to succeed. The portal comes with a powerful set of self-service capabilities in every application to provide you with enhanced, powerful user experiences designed for higher education. The Student Finance Center will provide unprecedented Student Account access for activity such as viewing account statements and e-bills, making payments by debit or credit card, granting proxy access to others, and updating Emergency and Missing Person contacts (Updating Emergency and Missing Contacts Instructions). The proxy account feature allows D&E students to authorize others (parents, grandparents, guardians, etc.) to access the self-service portal. Access is granted using the proxy’s email address and can only be authorized by the student; Davis & Elkins College faculty/staff cannot grant this access. The student controls who they designate as a proxy and what items that person can see, and can modify proxy permissions at any time. Visit the Student Accounts webpage for more information. In the coming weeks, the Knock Things Out Before Your Arrival Series will continue to address tasks you will need to have accomplished before arriving on campus in August. Please be sure to read this and all items in the series. Additionally, the Enrollment Management team will continue to contact students individually over the next few weeks to provide assistance.

New Student Orientation and Opening Events for Fall 2020

New Student Orientation for all new students will begin on Saturday, August 15. One of the most exciting journeys of your life — your undergraduate experience — is about to begin, and we are thrilled that you have chosen to attend Davis & Elkins College! Guide for Returning to Campus on the D&E website

D&E officially released its Guide for Returning to Campus last week, a comprehensive plan assembled by the Davis & Elkins College Re-opening Task Force in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. D&E President Chris Wood assembled task force members, who served on 11 subcommittees to address the wide range of issues related to the safe re-opening of the D&E campus. The Guide for Returning to Campus covers major areas of interest such as Campus Operations, Health and Safety Guidelines, Campus Access, Living and Learning Environments, Athletics, and Campus and Community Support. D&E emphasizes Return to Campus Guidelines

The health and safety of all students, faculty, staff, and the entire D&E community are our first priority. As such, the College has established the following guidelines for students as they prepare for the August return to campus:

  • Students are asked to self-isolate at home seven (7) days prior to the return to campus.

  • Students may, of course, interact with family members, but community exposure should be discontinued.

  • Check for the symptoms of COVID-19 daily prior to leaving for campus.

  • Do not depart for campus if you or another family member is sick.

  • Masks and social distancing standards should be strictly followed while in transit to campus.

  • Avoid large gatherings and crowds when possible in transit.

  • Follow face covering and handwashing guidelines.

Check this weekly student update, the D&E Mobile App, and your email regularly for updates. The Emergency Notification System (nixle) will also be used as appropriate.

Please practice social distancing and stay well.
