When the founders of Davis & Elkins College envisioned a small liberal arts college overlooking the relatively young town of Elkins, they fully understood the importance of higher education. They were committed to providing an institution where students would become leaders.
A little more than a hundred years later, we created a mission statement that carries that original vision into the future: To prepare and inspire students for success and for thoughtful engagement in the world. I see evidence of that on campus every day, from engaged students in the classroom to the increased spirit of volunteerism benefiting our community. Our students would have made our founders, Senators Davis and Elkins, proud.
Today D&E is at an important juncture. We are approaching the final year of a $100 million Secure the Future Campaign that will conclude on June 30, 2018. Thanks to an extraordinary $25 million challenge gift from James S. McDonnell III and the McDonnell Family Foundation, we are well on our way to meet our goal.
The entire College family – trustees, students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, parents, community – will all be working together to meet the challenge and Secure the Future for our students and our institution. Join us in this important campaign.

To make our vision a reality, we need your support to:
- Open D&E’s doors to all qualified students with scholarships and financial aid
- Strengthen our academic programs to ensure they continue to be distinctive, high quality programs.
- Keep our campus not only well-maintained, but continuously improved with new technology.
