Information Services

The Information Services department is the hub for all College computing, and serves the needs of both academic and administrative users. Technology resources include both departmental and public access computer labs. Davis & Elkins College subscribes to the Microsoft Campus Agreement affording students and faculty members access to word processing, database management, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Discipline-specific software in support of the academic program is also available in support of specific courses. All computers are connected to the campus network, giving access to a variety of campus resources. Students with computers may connect to the campus network via a wireless or wired connection anywhere on campus.

Davis & Elkins College recognizes the importance of computers in the current information age and is pleased to offer purchasing suggestions, anti-virus support, network connection support, and email for students. The college network is a fiber-optic backbone with a 40Mb connection. Campus computing facilities include facilities in the Booth Library (available 24/7), three labs in the Science Center and in Albert Hall, and several small departmental labs.

Campus-supported email accounts are required and provided to students via a campus agreement with Microsoft’s LIVE@edu. This system is extremely robust and provides more capability and flexibility than a standard email system. The student has online access to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as file sharing and much, much more from anywhere there is internet access, also, the student gets to keep the account after they graduate!
