Bachelor of Science in Economics or Bachelor of Science in Finance

Study in economics includes a broad range of classes committed to presenting a view of the world's major economic systems with a special emphasis on the organization and operation of market economics.

 

Degree RequirementsBachelor of Science in Economics

The requirements for a major in Economics consist of 30 semester hours including:

  • Economics 105 - Introduction to Macroeconomics
  • Economics 106 - Introduction to Microeconomics
  • Economics 205 - Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory
  • Economics 206 - Intermediate Microeconomic Theory
  • Economics 302 - Money and Banking
  • Economics 307 - Investments

In addition, 12 semester hours of 200 level or above Economics courses are required. Math 196 is highly recommended.

 

 

Bachelor of Science in Finance

The requirements for a major in Finance consist of 42 hours including:

  • Business Administration 101 - Introduction to Business
  • Accounting 111 - Principles of Accounting I
  • Accounting 112 - Principles of Accounting II
  • Accounting 307 - Finance
  • Accounting 308 - Corporate Finance
  • Economics 105 - Introduction to Macroeconomics
  • Economics 106 - Introduction to Microeconomics
  • Economics 230 - Personal Finance
  • Economics 302 - Money and Banking
  • Economics 307 - Investments
  • Economics 308 - Public Sector Economics
  • Management 201 - Principles of Management
  • Management 395 - Management Internship
  • Management 397 - Senior Seminar

 


Minor in Economics

The requirements for a minor in Economics consist of 18 semester hours including:

  • Economics 105 - Introduction to Macroeconomics
  • Economics 106 - Introduction to Microeconomics
  • Economics 302 - Money and Banking

In addition, 9 semester hours of Economics electives are required.

 

 

Minor in Finance

The requirements for a minor in Finance consist of 21 semester hours including:

  • Accounting 111 - Principles of Accounting I
  • Accounting 112 - Principles of Accounting II
  • Accounting 307 - Finance
  • Accounting 308 - Corporate Finance
  • Economics 105 - Introduction to Macroeconomics
  • Economics 230 - Personal Finance
  • Economics 302 - Money and Banking
  • Economics 307 - Investments (recommended but not required)

The Davis & Elkins College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team received a $1,000 Environmental Sustainability Challenge Award from SIFE USA and Sam’s Club to implement recycling and sustainability projects in Canaan Valley. Davis & Elkins College is celebrated National Entrepreneurship Week with students in Dr. Vicki Mullenex’s Entrepreneurship class and members of D&E’s Students in Free Enterprise club hosting staff from the Small Business Administration. This community outreach event focused on “Women in Entrepreneurship,” with helpful information on starting a business.
